Aetna Medicare Advantage in Kansas City for 2027

By Cole Insure. Reviewed by a licensed Cole Insure agent. November 1, 2026.

If you have an Aetna Medicare Advantage plan in Kansas City, 2027 brings one big change: Saint Luke’s leaves the network on January 1. That is not the whole story, though. Other hospital systems still list Aetna, and one already did not take it. This page lays out what each system has posted, so you can check your own hospital before December 7.

This only matters for Medicare Advantage plans. If you have an Aetna Medicare Supplement plan, also called Medigap, Saint Luke’s says you are not affected. A Medigap plan works alongside Original Medicare, which lets you use any doctor or hospital in the U.S. that takes Medicare. The exception is a Medicare SELECT supplement, which can require you to use its network hospitals.

Saint Luke’s: out on January 1

Saint Luke’s is part of BJC Health. KCTV5 reported on October 21, 2026, that BJC and Saint Luke’s will leave Aetna Medicare Advantage. Saint Luke’s says its physicians, other providers and facilities will all be out of network for those plans starting January 1, 2027. Saint Luke’s also mentions possible continuity of care transition periods, and says to ask your health plan whether you qualify.

Saint Luke’s also says patients with a Medicare Supplement plan, including Aetna, are not affected. For 2027, it lists Devoted Health, Humana and UnitedHealthcare among the Medicare Advantage plans it will still take. We have more on Humana, Devoted Health and UnitedHealthcare and AARP plans for 2027.

More on keeping your Aetna plan, continuity of care, and what happens if the two sides make a deal later is in Saint Luke’s leaving Aetna.

NKC Health: Aetna not on the list

NKC Health is the name North Kansas City Hospital and Meritas Health have shared since June 2025. Its accepted insurance page lists Aetna Medicare Advantage under “plans that exclude NKC Health.” The only Medicare Advantage company it lists as accepted is Humana. It also takes Original Medicare and Medicare Supplement plans. More in NKC Health and Medicare Advantage.

HCA Midwest Health: stayed in network

HCA Midwest runs Research Medical Center, Menorah, Overland Park Regional, Centerpoint, Lee’s Summit Medical Center, Belton Regional and other hospitals. On August 16, 2024, HCA Midwest announced it would stay in network in Kansas City for Aetna Medicare Advantage members after reaching an agreement with Aetna. We have not seen anything newer that changes that. Menorah’s current insurance page lists Aetna Medicare HMO and PPO plans. Each HCA hospital keeps its own list, so check the one you use.

The University of Kansas Health System

The University of Kansas Health System’s insurance page lists Aetna Medicare Advantage for its Kansas City metro, Olathe and Paola locations. The page does not mention 2027, and it says the list can change without notice. Liberty Hospital joined the same system in July 2024 but keeps its own insurance list.

University Health, AdventHealth and Liberty Hospital

We did not find any public 2027 Aetna Medicare Advantage announcement from University Health, AdventHealth’s Kansas City hospitals or Liberty Hospital. No news is not a promise. Check your plan’s 2027 provider directory, or let us look it up for you.

Is Aetna ending any plans here?

KFF, a health research group, counted that CVS Health, Aetna’s parent company, is leaving 186 counties and entering 63 across the country for 2027. KFF did not list them by county. As of November 1, 2026, we have not seen a public list showing Aetna leaving Jackson, Clay, Platte or Cass County in Missouri, or Johnson or Wyandotte County in Kansas.

Aetna says it will offer Medicare Advantage plans with drug coverage in 41 states plus Washington, D.C. for 2027, but a single plan can still end even when the company stays. Check your mail. Medicare.gov says a plan that is leaving Medicare sends a Plan Non-Renewal Notice in October. If you got one:

  • Pick a new plan by December 7 and it starts January 1, with no gap.
  • You also get a Special Enrollment Period. Medicare.gov says it runs from December 8 through the last day of February. If you join a plan after December 7, ask the new plan when your coverage starts.
  • If you do nothing, you go back to Original Medicare on January 1.
  • You may have a right to buy a Medicare Supplement plan without health questions. Medicare’s Medigap guide says that when your Medicare Advantage plan leaves Medicare or stops giving care in your area and you switch to Original Medicare, you can buy certain Medigap plans sold in your state. You must apply no more than 63 days after your Medicare Advantage coverage ends, and the Medigap policy can’t start until that coverage ends.

Our plan ending letter guide walks through the steps.

How to check your own plan

  1. Find your card. A Medicare Advantage card usually says “Medicare Advantage” or shows HMO or PPO. A Medigap card does not.
  2. Read your Annual Notice of Change for 2027.
  3. Look up your hospital and each doctor in the 2027 provider directory, not the 2026 one.
  4. If something is out of network, compare other plans before December 7. If you miss that date and stay in a Medicare Advantage plan, the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period runs January 1 to March 31, 2027.
