Medicare Help in Overland Park, Kansas

Overland Park has several hospitals inside its own city limits. That is good news, as long as the plan you pick works with the ones you use. We help you check before you choose.

Overland Park and the towns around it

Overland Park is the biggest city in Johnson County, Kansas. Most people here also spend time in Leawood, Prairie Village, Lenexa, Olathe and Shawnee, and many cross State Line Road into Kansas City, Missouri for a specialist or a hospital. That is normal, and it is fine. It just means a plan has to work in more than one place.

The Medicare Advantage and drug plans you can choose depend on the county you live in. Johnson County has many of them. We start with your ZIP code, your doctors and your medicines, then show you the plans we offer that fit.

Four hospitals, one city

When people in Overland Park call us, the first thing they say is usually "I want to keep my doctor." Here, that often means one of these hospitals. All of them are inside Overland Park:

Menorah Medical CenterHCA Midwest Health119th Street, near Nall
Saint Luke's South HospitalSaint Luke's Health SystemMetcalf Avenue, near 123rd
AdventHealth South Overland ParkAdventHealth165th Street, south Overland Park

Many people also drive to The University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas, or to AdventHealth Shawnee Mission in Merriam. Three health systems in one city means a Medicare Advantage network might include two of them and leave out the third. Networks change every year, and sometimes during the year. We do not guess. We check your doctors and hospital against each plan we offer before you decide. See how we check.

Supplement or Advantage: what it means here

  • Medicare Supplement plans (also called Medigap) work with any doctor or hospital in the country that takes Medicare. Menorah, Saint Luke's South, a Missouri specialist, it does not matter. There is no network to check.
  • Medicare Advantage plans use networks and often need prior approval for some care. The plan has to say yes before certain tests or stays. If your doctors are spread across several systems, this is where people get surprised. We look at that with you up front.

Before you switch, send us your list. Write down your doctors, your hospital and your medicines. We will check them against the plans we offer, in Kansas and Missouri. Call (816) 307-6165 or book a free review.

Signing up for Parts A and B

Medicare Parts A and B come from the federal government, and Social Security handles the sign-up. We are not Social Security and we cannot enroll you in Part A or B, but we can tell you what to expect and when to start. Most people apply online at ssa.gov or by phone at 1-800-772-1213.

If you would rather go in person, the Social Security office that serves Johnson County is in Lenexa, on 95th Street just west of Overland Park:

Social Security Office, Lenexa
15375 W 95th St, Lenexa, KS 66219
Local number: 1-877-445-9978. Office hours and appointment details are on the ssa.gov office locator. Social Security recommends making an appointment before you visit.

Address listed by the Kansas Department for Children and Families; please confirm with the ssa.gov locator before you go.

Veterans in Overland Park

If you served, you may already get some care through the VA. Overland Park has its own Overland Park VA Clinic on Mastin Street, which offers cancer care and radiation therapy by referral, plus telehealth visits. For a full medical center, most people here use the Kansas City VA Medical Center at 4801 Linwood Blvd in Kansas City, Missouri, or the Dwight D. Eisenhower VA Medical Center in Leavenworth, Kansas. VA care and Medicare can work together, and Medicare can cover you at places the VA does not. We explain how the pieces fit on our veterans page.

Kansas has its own Supplement rules

Parts A and B are federal, so they are the same everywhere. But each state sets some rules for Medicare Supplement plans. Missouri has a yearly anniversary rule for switching. Kansas does not have the same rule, so in Kansas your first Supplement choice matters more. If you moved here from Missouri, or your spouse lives on the other side of the line, this can change your options. See how Missouri and Kansas compare.

Questions people ask us

Is there a Medicare office in Overland Park?

No. Medicare does not have local walk-in offices, and we are not a government office. Social Security handles signing up for Parts A and B. The closest Social Security office is in Lenexa at 15375 W 95th St. You can also apply online at ssa.gov or call 1-800-772-1213. For help choosing a plan, call us or SHICK.

Do you have an office in Overland Park?

Not right now. We help people in Overland Park by phone and video. When our office reopens in January 2027, you will also be able to meet with us in person by appointment.

My doctors are at Menorah, but my husband goes to Saint Luke's South. Can one plan cover both?

Often, yes, but it depends on the plan type. A Medicare Supplement works with any hospital that takes Medicare. A Medicare Advantage plan uses a network, and each spouse can pick a different plan if that fits better. We check both hospitals against the plans we offer before you decide.

Are Medicare Supplement rules different in Kansas?

Yes, in some ways. Medicare itself is federal and works the same everywhere. But Kansas sets its own rules for Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policies, and they are not the same as Missouri's. Our Missouri vs Kansas page explains the main differences.
