How Cole Insure Is Paid, and How We Write

You should know how the person helping you gets paid. Here is the plain answer, plus how we research and check everything we publish.

The short answer

You never pay us. When you enroll in a plan through Cole Insure, the insurance company pays us a commission from its own budget. The price you pay for the plan is exactly the same as it would be if you called the company yourself. There is no markup, no fee, and no bill from us, ever.

How commissions work

Insurance companies pay agents to help people enroll and to service those policies afterward. When you enroll with us, the company pays us once when the policy starts and then a smaller amount each year you keep it. That yearly payment is why we call you every fall, answer questions all year, and help when a claim goes sideways. We are paid to stay, not just to sign you up.

If you cancel or switch within a short time, the company usually takes the commission back. So there is no reason for us to put you in a plan that will not fit. A plan that fits is the only way this works for both of us.

Why commission does not steer our advice

This is the fair question, and here is the honest answer in three parts.

  • Medicare Supplements. Commissions are similar across the companies we represent, and Plan G is Plan G no matter who sells it. Our only job is to find you a stable company at a fair price, and the pay does not change much either way.
  • Medicare Advantage and Part D. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) sets a yearly maximum on what any plan can pay an agent, and it is the same for every Medicare Advantage plan in your state and for every Part D plan. No plan can pay us extra to favor it.
  • Our name is on it. We live and work in Kansas City. If we put you in the wrong plan, you will tell your neighbors. We would rather you tell them we got it right.

When the better plan for you is one we do not sell, we say so and point you to Medicare.gov or your state's free SHIP counselors. It happens, and we are fine with it.

What we are required to tell you

We are what CMS calls a third-party marketing organization, so here is the disclaimer the rules require, in full:

We do not offer every plan available in your area. Any information we provide is limited to those plans we do offer in your area. Please contact Medicare.gov, 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY users call 1-877-486-2048) 24 hours a day / 7 days a week, or your local State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) to get information on all of your options.

Cole Insure is not connected with or endorsed by the United States government or the federal Medicare program.

Our calls are recorded as CMS requires, and we will never ask for your Medicare number or bank details before you decide to enroll.

How we write and check our articles

Every page on this site is written for people in Kansas City who want straight answers, not for search engines. Here is our process.

  • Where the facts come from. We start with primary sources: CMS, Medicare.gov, Social Security, the Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance, the Kansas Insurance Department, and official notices from insurance companies and local hospitals. When we use a secondary source like a research group, we name it and link to it.
  • Who reviews it. A licensed Cole Insure agent reads every page before it goes live and again when rules or figures change. Dollar figures live in one place and are updated when CMS publishes new numbers.
  • Dates you can see. Each page shows when it was last checked. If a page is older than the current plan year, treat it as background and call us for the current numbers.
  • No pressure language. We do not use urgency tricks, fake deadlines or scare words. If a real deadline matters, we tell you the date and why.
  • Corrections welcome. If you spot a mistake, email [email protected]. We fix errors fast and note the change.

What we will not do

  • Charge you a fee for advice, enrollment or help with a claim.
  • Sell or share your information with other agencies or lead companies.
  • Enroll you in anything over the phone without your clear permission and a recorded consent.
  • Promise savings we cannot show you on paper.

Questions people ask us

Do I pay Cole Insure anything?

No. We never charge you a fee. The insurance company you enroll with pays us a commission out of its own budget. Your premium is the same whether you enroll through us, through another agent, or directly with the company.

Would my plan cost less if I bought it directly from the insurance company?

No. By law and by contract, a Medicare plan has one price in your ZIP code no matter who sells it. Buying direct does not save money. It just means no one is checking your doctors and drugs, or helping you when something goes wrong.

Does commission change which plan you recommend?

We work hard to make sure it does not. Medicare Supplement commissions are similar across the companies we represent, and CMS sets a yearly cap on what any Medicare Advantage or Part D plan can pay an agent, the same for every plan of that type in your state.

Do you represent every insurance company?

No. We work with many companies but not every one. If we think a plan we do not sell is the better fit, we will tell you and point you to Medicare.gov or your state SHIP so you can enroll there.

Who checks the articles on this site?

A licensed Cole Insure agent reviews each page before it goes live and when rules change. We cite CMS, Medicare.gov, Social Security, state insurance departments and carrier notices, and we show the date each page was last checked.

Questions about how this works?

Ask us anything about commissions, companies we represent, or a plan we do not sell. We would rather you ask than wonder.
