Raytown and the area around it
Raytown is in Jackson County and sits inside the Kansas City city limits on nearly every side (Wikipedia). People here also use Independence, Lee's Summit, Grandview and the east and south sides of Kansas City for doctors, pharmacies and family. Highway 350, I-70 and I-435 make most of the metro a short drive.
Medicare Advantage and Part D drug plans are sold by county. Raytown, Independence, Lee's Summit and most of Kansas City, Missouri are all in Jackson County, so the plan list is usually the same. What changes from one person to the next is the network, the drug list and what you can afford each month.
Hospitals people in Raytown use
- Research Medical Center (HCA Midwest Health), 2316 E Meyer Blvd, Kansas City, just west of Raytown.
- University Health Truman Medical Center, 2301 Holmes St, Kansas City, and University Health Lakewood Medical Center, 7900 Lee's Summit Rd, to the east.
- Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City, 4401 Wornall Rd, on the Plaza, and Saint Luke's East in Lee's Summit.
- Centerpoint Medical Center (HCA Midwest Health), Independence.
These belong to three different health systems, and each system signs its own contracts with Medicare Advantage plans. We do not list network details here, because they change every year and we would rather check your plan than guess. A Medicare Supplement works at all of them, because it goes with any provider who takes Medicare. See how we check.
Help paying for Medicare
Many people in Raytown live on a fixed income, and the Part B premium comes straight out of the Social Security check. If that is tight, there are two programs worth knowing about. Neither one comes from us, and neither one costs anything to apply for.
| Program | What it can do | Where to apply |
|---|---|---|
| Missouri Medicare Savings Programs | Pay the Part B premium for people with limited income and savings. Some levels also help with deductibles and copays. | Missouri Department of Social Services, Family Support Division |
| Extra Help (Low-Income Subsidy) | Lowers Part D drug plan premiums, deductibles and copays. | Social Security, online or at 1-800-772-1213 |
The income limits are similar, so it is worth asking about both at the same time. We do not decide who qualifies, and we do not handle the application. What we do is tell you whether it looks worth applying, point you to the right place, and then help you pick a plan that fits once you know. This year's Medicare figures are on our Medicare costs page.
Call us first, before you give up a benefit to save money. Dropping Part B or a drug plan to cut costs can bring penalties later. There is often a better way. Call (816) 307-6165 or book a free review.
The dental surprise
Here is something many people in Raytown learn the hard way: Original Medicare does not cover routine dental care. No cleanings, no fillings, no dentures. A Medicare Supplement does not add dental either. Some Medicare Advantage plans include a dental benefit, and separate dental plans exist. Two questions decide whether a dental benefit is worth anything to you: what does it actually pay for, and does your dentist take it? We check both before you enroll, so the first time you hear about a limit is from us, not from the front desk at the dentist. Our dental, vision and hearing page goes deeper.
Signing up for Parts A and B
Social Security, not Medicare and not us, handles signing up for Parts A and B. Most people do it online at ssa.gov or by phone at 1-800-772-1213. Raytown does not have its own Social Security office. Two are a similar distance away:
Social Security Office, Independence
3520 S Noland Rd, Suite C, Independence, MO 64055
Social Security Office, Kansas City South
6320 Euclid Ave, Kansas City, MO 64132
Check hours and make an appointment through the ssa.gov office locator. Addresses listed by United Way of Greater Kansas City 211 (Independence, Kansas City South). Please confirm with the locator before you go.
Veterans in Raytown
If you served, you have a VA clinic practically next door. The Honor VA Clinic at 4251 Northern Ave, Kansas City, offers primary care, mental health care, radiology and a pharmacy. For hospital care, veterans here use the Kansas City VA Medical Center at 4801 Linwood Blvd, a short drive up I-70. Veterans often ask whether Medicare is worth having on top of VA care. VA covers you inside VA facilities. Medicare can cover you at Research Medical Center or a local urgent care, where VA alone usually does not. VA also does not provide routine dental care to most veterans (va.gov), and it does not cover a spouse. We explain the pieces, including TRICARE For Life and CHAMPVA, on our veterans page.
Missouri rules and free help
Missouri has an anniversary rule for Medicare Supplement plans. Each year, within 30 days before or after your policy anniversary, you may switch to the same plan letter with another company without health questions (Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance). Kansas does not have this rule. See how the two states compare.
For free counseling that does not sell anything, call Missouri SHIP at 800-390-3330 or visit missouriship.org. It used to be called CLAIM.
How we work with people in Raytown
We are a local agency, based in Kansas City and independent of any single insurance company. We do not have a Raytown office. For now, Raytown residents talk with us by phone or on video, and when our office reopens in January 2027 you can also come see us in person by appointment. We shop plans from many insurance companies for you at no charge, and the price is the same as going direct. We are here all year, so when a plan letter arrives or a bill does not look right, call us first.

Questions people ask us
Is there a Medicare office in Raytown?
No. Medicare does not have local offices, and we are not a government office. Social Security handles Part A and B sign-up. The two closest Social Security offices are in Independence at 3520 S Noland Rd, Suite C, and the Kansas City South office at 6320 Euclid Ave. You can also apply online at ssa.gov or call 1-800-772-1213. For help choosing a plan, call us or Missouri SHIP.
I cannot afford my Part B premium. Is there help?
There may be. Missouri's Medicare Savings Programs help some people with limited income and savings pay the Part B premium, and in some cases more. You apply through the Missouri Department of Social Services, not through us. We can tell you whether it is worth applying and help you pick a plan that fits once you know.
Does Medicare cover my dentist in Raytown?
Original Medicare does not cover routine dental care like cleanings, fillings or dentures. Some Medicare Advantage plans include dental benefits, and separate dental plans exist. Whether your dentist takes a given plan is a separate question, and we check that before you enroll.
Do you have an office in Raytown?
We do not have an office in Raytown. We help Raytown by phone and video right now. In-person appointments come back when our Kansas City office reopens in January 2027.
Will my plan include Research Medical Center?
A Medicare Supplement does, because it works with any hospital that takes Medicare. For a Medicare Advantage plan, it depends on the network, which can change each year. Give us your doctors' names and we will check the plans we offer.
Does it cost anything to work with you?
No. There is no charge for our help, now or later. A plan costs the same whether you enroll through us or directly with the insurance company.
