Belton and its neighbors
Belton is a Cass County city of about 24,000 people, about 17 miles south of downtown Kansas City (Wikipedia, City of Belton). I-49 runs through town, and Highway 58 crosses it on the way east to Raymore. Peculiar is a few miles down I-49 to the south, and Grandview is just north, over the Jackson County line.
Belton's ZIP code is 64012. Plans are offered by county and ZIP code, so your street address is the first thing we ask for.
Because Belton, Raymore and Peculiar are all in Cass County, they usually see the same list of Medicare Advantage and Part D drug plans. A friend in Grandview may see a slightly different list, because Grandview is in Jackson County. The list matters less than you might think, though. The real work is finding which plan on it fits your doctors, your medicines and your budget.
Hospitals Belton families use
Most Belton families use hospitals from at least two health systems, and often from both states. Here are the ones we hear about most:
| Hospital | Health system | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Belton Regional Medical Center | HCA Midwest Health | 17065 S US Highway 71, Belton |
| Cass Regional Medical Center | Publicly owned, not part of a large system | 2800 E Rock Haven Rd, Harrisonville |
| Research Medical Center | HCA Midwest Health | 2316 E Meyer Blvd, Kansas City, MO |
| Lee's Summit Medical Center | HCA Midwest Health | 2100 SE Blue Pkwy, Lee's Summit |
| Saint Luke's East Hospital | Saint Luke's (BJC Health) | 100 NE Saint Luke's Blvd, Lee's Summit |
| Saint Luke's South Hospital | Saint Luke's (BJC Health) | 12300 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS |
Each system makes its own deals with Medicare Advantage plans, and a deal can end at the close of any year. A plan might include Belton Regional and not Saint Luke's, or the other way around. Cass Regional is a small critical access hospital, so it is worth asking about by name if you live toward Harrisonville. A Medicare Supplement skips this question, because it works at any hospital that takes Medicare. Our article on Belton Regional Medical Center and Medicare has a yearly checklist, and our doctors and hospitals page shows how we check.
Crossing the state line for care
Yes, you can live in Belton and see doctors in Kansas. How easy that is depends on the kind of Medicare you pick. Belton's ZIP code, 64012, runs west all the way to State Line Road, so Kansas is right next door. Overland Park, Olathe and southern Johnson County are a short drive away. Many Belton people already have a specialist or a surgeon on the Kansas side.
- Original Medicare with a Supplement: no network, so a doctor in Overland Park works the same as one in Belton.
- Medicare Advantage: you buy the plan based on your Missouri address, but its network may or may not reach into Kansas. We check each Kansas doctor by name.
- Supplement rules: these follow where you live, not where your doctor is. Belton residents get Missouri's rules.
Our article Medicare in Belton vs Overland Park explains what changes for families with relatives on both sides.
The Saint Luke's change for 2027
If you have an Aetna Medicare Advantage plan and use Saint Luke's, you should look at your plan before December 7. Saint Luke's says its hospitals, clinics and doctors will be out of network for those plans starting January 1, 2027 (Saint Luke's, as of October 2026). For Belton, that means Saint Luke's South in Overland Park and Saint Luke's East in Lee's Summit, the two Saint Luke's hospitals closest to town. It does not affect Original Medicare or a Medicare Supplement. Read Saint Luke's leaves Aetna Medicare Advantage for your options.
Belton has been through this before. When Blue KC left Medicare Advantage after 2024, many people here picked a new plan in a hurry. If that was you and you have not looked since, this fall is a good time.
Call us first, before a network change catches you in January. Give us your doctors on both sides of the state line and the hospital you would want in an emergency. We check them against the 2027 plans we offer. Call (816) 307-6165 or book a free review.
Signing up for Parts A and B
You sign up for Parts A and B with Social Security. Medicare does not do it, and neither do we. The simplest way is online at ssa.gov. You can also call 1-800-772-1213. Your first chance runs for seven months, from three months before your 65th birthday month to three months after it (medicare.gov). If you still have health coverage through a job, ask us before you put off Part B, since waiting the wrong way can bring a penalty.
There is no Social Security office in Belton, and most people do not need one. You can sign up for Parts A and B online at ssa.gov in about 10 minutes, or call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213. We are happy to walk through the online form with you on the phone.
If you would rather go in person, one of the closest offices to Belton is about 20 minutes north on I-49 and US 71:
Social Security Office, Kansas City South
6320 Euclid Ave, Kansas City, MO 64132
Call ahead for an appointment, since walk-in waits can be long. For a step by step list, see our turning 65 checklist for Raymore and Belton.
Veterans in Belton
Belton has its own VA clinic. The Belton VA Clinic at 1900 E 173rd St offers primary care, mental health care, lab work and telehealth visits on weekdays. Hospital care is at the Kansas City VA Medical Center, 4801 Linwood Blvd. VA care covers you at VA sites. Medicare is what covers you at Belton Regional or an urgent care down the street when the VA is not an option. VA care also does not include a spouse, and most veterans do not get routine dental through the VA (va.gov). Our veterans page covers how VA, Medicare, TRICARE For Life and CHAMPVA fit together.
Missouri protections and free help
Living in Belton gives you a Missouri rule that Kansas does not have. If you have a Medicare Supplement, Missouri lets you move to the same plan letter with another company each year, within 30 days before or after your policy anniversary, with no health questions (Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance). It does not apply to Medicare Advantage. Our anniversary rule article walks through how to use it, and Missouri vs Kansas compares the two states.
Fall also brings more scam calls to Cass County. If you did not call them, do not give them your Medicare number. See avoiding Medicare scams in Cass County.

How we help Belton residents
We are an independent Kansas City agency, not tied to one insurance company, and licensed in 42 states, including Missouri and Kansas. That helps when your doctors are on both sides of the line. There is no Belton office for now, so we meet by phone or video call. Starting in January 2027, you can also see us in person by appointment at our Kansas City office. We compare plans from many companies, our help is free, and you pay the same price you would pay going direct. After you enroll, we stay your contact all year. If a network letter shows up or a claim looks wrong, call us first.

Questions people ask us
Is there a Medicare or Social Security office in Belton?
No. Medicare has no local offices, and we are not a government office. Social Security signs people up for Parts A and B, and Belton does not have its own office. Most people never need one: you can apply online at ssa.gov or call 1-800-772-1213. If you want to go in person, the Kansas City South office at 6320 Euclid Ave is one of the closest to Belton, about 20 minutes north.
I see doctors in Overland Park. Can I still live in Belton and keep them?
With Original Medicare and a Medicare Supplement, yes. Any doctor or hospital that takes Medicare works, on either side of the state line. With Medicare Advantage, it depends on the plan's network. Your plan choices come from your Cass County address, so we check each Kansas doctor by name before you enroll.
Do Raymore and Peculiar get the same plans as Belton?
Usually, yes. Medicare Advantage and Part D drug plans are sold by county, and all three towns are in Cass County. Grandview, just to the north, is in Jackson County, so its list can be a little different. What really differs from person to person is the network, the drug list and the monthly cost.
I have an Aetna Medicare Advantage plan and use Saint Luke's South. What should I do?
Saint Luke's says its hospitals and doctors, including Saint Luke's South and Saint Luke's East, will be out of network for Aetna Medicare Advantage plans on January 1, 2027. Emergency care is still covered. If you want to keep seeing Saint Luke's, the main time to change plans is Open Enrollment, which ends December 7. Call us and we will check your doctors against the 2027 networks.
Will a plan cover Belton Regional and Cass Regional?
A Medicare Supplement works at both, since neither one needs a network. For Medicare Advantage, each hospital signs its own contracts, and those can change every year. Belton Regional is part of HCA Midwest Health. Cass Regional in Harrisonville is publicly owned and not part of a big system. We check both for the year you are enrolling.
Do you charge for your help, or have an office in Belton?
We do not charge anything, and the price of a plan is the same as going straight to the insurance company. We do not have a Belton office. We work with Belton residents by phone and video, and in-person visits come back when our Kansas City office reopens in January 2027.
