If you use University Health or an HCA Midwest hospital and you have a Medicare Advantage plan, this page is for you. We pulled together what each hospital posts on its own website, so you can check your plan before December 7.
Here is the short version. As of November 6, 2026, we did not find any public 2027 Medicare Advantage network change from University Health or HCA Midwest Health. Both post insurance lists that include Aetna, Humana, UnitedHealthcare and Wellcare Medicare Advantage plans. There is one big difference: University Health lists Devoted Health as out of network, while the HCA Midwest hospital lists we checked include Devoted. None of these lists shows a date or mentions 2027, so always confirm with your plan.
This only matters for Medicare Advantage plans. With Original Medicare, you can use any doctor or hospital that takes Medicare, anywhere in the U.S.
Which hospitals are in each system
University Health
University Health used to be called Truman Medical Centers. It changed its name on October 1, 2021. Its two hospitals got new names at the same time:
- University Health Truman Medical Center, on Hospital Hill at 23rd and Holmes in Kansas City, Missouri
- University Health Lakewood Medical Center, in eastern Jackson County
University Health also has its own doctors group, University Health Physicians. Its insurance page shows the hospitals and the doctors group in separate columns.
HCA Midwest Health
HCA Midwest Health calls itself the Kansas City metro’s largest healthcare provider, with over 150 locations. It lists seven hospitals and one psychiatric hospital:
- Research Medical Center
- Overland Park Regional Medical Center
- Centerpoint Medical Center
- Menorah Medical Center
- Lee’s Summit Medical Center
- Belton Regional Medical Center
- Lafayette Regional Health Center
- Research Psychiatric Center
Each HCA hospital has its own insurance page. HCA’s main insurance page asks you to pick a hospital to see its list.
What each hospital lists at a glance
| Hospital | Medicare Advantage plans listed as accepted | Listed as out of network |
|---|---|---|
| University Health Truman Medical Center and Lakewood Medical Center | Aetna, Humana, UnitedHealthcare (including AARP plans) and Wellcare (listed as Allwell/Wellcare Home State Health) | Devoted Health |
| Research Medical Center (HCA) | Aetna, Devoted, Humana, UnitedHealthcare and Wellcare | None of these |
| Overland Park Regional Medical Center (HCA) | Aetna, Devoted, Humana, UnitedHealthcare and Wellcare | None of these |
| Menorah Medical Center (HCA) | Aetna, Devoted, Humana, UnitedHealthcare and Wellcare | None of these |
| Centerpoint, Lee’s Summit, Belton Regional, Lafayette Regional and Research Psychiatric (HCA) | Each hospital keeps its own list | Ask your plan or call us to check |
These lists can change during the year. A hospital being on a list today does not promise it will be in network on January 1, 2027.
University Health: what its list says
University Health’s insurance page has a Medicare Advantage table. It marks each plan as in network or out of network for both the hospitals and the University Health Physicians doctors group.
- In network: Aetna Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO, Humana Medicare Advantage, UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage, AARP UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage, and Allwell/Wellcare Home State Health.
- Out of network: Devoted Health, along with a few other plans.
If you have Devoted Health, or you are thinking about it, and you go to Truman or Lakewood, look closely before you choose a plan.
The page says its plan list does not change often, but it also asks you to contact the office to make sure your plan is accepted. It notes that doctors’ offices may not take the same plans as the hospital, so check your doctor too. The page does not show a date and does not mention 2027. University Health’s main number is 816-404-1000.
HCA Midwest Health: what its lists say
We checked the insurance pages for Research Medical Center, Overland Park Regional Medical Center and Menorah Medical Center. All three list these under “Medicare HMO/PPO”: Aetna, Devoted, Humana, UnitedHealthcare and Wellcare, plus two smaller plans.
Each page also says: “This list changes frequently, please verify each hospital and doctor accepts your insurance plan prior to your visit.” None of the pages shows a date.
A few more things to know about HCA Midwest:
- Aetna: On August 16, 2024, HCA Midwest said it had reached an agreement with Aetna. It said Aetna Medicare Advantage members could keep getting care at all of its Kansas City hospitals, surgery centers and freestanding ERs. The announcement did not give an end date. We have not seen anything newer that changes it.
- Cigna: HCA Midwest’s 2026 contract notice about Cigna talked about Cigna’s commercial plans, the kind people often get through a job. It did not mention Medicare plans.
- Other HCA hospitals: For Centerpoint, Lee’s Summit, Belton Regional, Lafayette Regional and Research Psychiatric, check that hospital’s own list or ask your plan. We have more on Belton Regional Medical Center and on Lee’s Summit networks for 2027.
Is anything changing for 2027?
We looked at both hospital systems’ websites and local news for any 2027 Medicare Advantage change. As of November 6, 2026, we did not find one for University Health or HCA Midwest. No news is not a promise. Hospitals and plans can still change their deals, so the best answer is your plan’s 2027 provider directory.
Other Kansas City hospitals did announce changes. See Kansas City hospital networks for 2027 for the full picture. If you have Aetna, read Aetna Medicare Advantage in Kansas City for 2027. If you have UnitedHealthcare or an AARP plan, read UnitedHealthcare and AARP Medicare Advantage in Kansas City for 2027.
How to check if your hospital is in network
- Find your card. A Medicare Advantage card usually says “Medicare Advantage” or shows HMO or PPO. Write down the exact plan name.
- Read your Annual Notice of Change. This letter from your plan shows how your plan changes for 2027.
- Search the 2027 network. Medicare suggests searching for your doctors and other providers to see if they are in the network of each plan you are thinking about. You can do this at Medicare.gov/plan-compare or in the plan’s own 2027 directory. Use the 2027 list, not the 2026 one.
- Check your doctors, too. Both University Health and HCA Midwest say to check your doctor, not just the hospital.
- Call to confirm. Call the number on your plan card, or call us and we will check for you.
You can also call Medicare at 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227), 24 hours a day. TTY users can call 1-877-486-2048.
What to do before December 7
Medicare Open Enrollment runs October 15 to December 7. If you switch to a new health or drug plan during that time, your new coverage starts January 1.
- If your hospital is in network for 2027, you may decide to keep your plan. Still read your Annual Notice of Change for other changes, like costs and drugs.
- If your hospital is not in network, or you are not sure, compare plans that list your hospital and doctors before December 7.
- If you miss December 7 and you are in a Medicare Advantage plan, you have from January 1 to March 31 to switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan, or to switch to Original Medicare and join a separate drug plan.
The Original Medicare and Medigap option
Some people would rather not worry about networks at all. With Original Medicare, you can use any doctor or hospital that takes Medicare, anywhere in the U.S.
You can choose to add a Medicare Supplement plan, also called Medigap, to help pay costs Original Medicare does not cover. A few things to know:
- You can only buy a Medigap plan if you have Original Medicare. Insurance companies generally can’t sell you one if you have a Medicare Advantage plan.
- A Medicare SELECT plan is a kind of Medigap plan that may require you to use hospitals in its network, and in some cases its doctors.
- Outside of certain protected times, a Medigap company can turn you down because of your health. So timing matters.
Missouri and Kansas each have their own Medigap rules. We explain them in the Missouri Medigap anniversary rule and Kansas Medigap rules. Our Medicare Supplement page covers the basics.
