The short answer
If your Medicare Advantage plan is ending, you may be able to get Medigap without health questions in Blue Springs. You only have this right if you switch to Original Medicare, not if you join another Advantage plan.
You can apply as early as 60 days before your plan coverage ends, and no later than 63 days after it ends. Do not wait until the last week.
Can I get Medigap without health questions in Blue Springs?
Yes, in the right situation. Medicare calls this a guaranteed issue right.
In these cases the company must sell you a Medigap policy and must cover your health conditions. It also can’t charge you more for past or present health problems.
Missouri’s Medigap guide lists the triggers for people in an Advantage plan: the plan is leaving Medicare, it stops giving care in your area, or you move out of its service area.
Here is how the timing works. Medigap only works with Original Medicare. Your Medigap coverage can’t start until your Advantage coverage ends. Ask for a start date that matches, so you have no gap in coverage.
Say your plan ends December 31, 2026. The window is already open today. It runs until early March 2027.
Who can use this 63-day window?
You may qualify if:
- Your Advantage plan is leaving Medicare
- Your plan stops serving your area
- You move out of your plan’s service area
You must also choose Original Medicare. If you join a different Advantage plan instead, this right does not apply.
If you don’t pick another Advantage plan during Open Enrollment, Medicare puts you in Original Medicare automatically. Open Enrollment runs October 15 to December 7. That does not give you a Medigap policy. You still have to apply.
Keep your letters, notices and emails about the plan ending. You may need to send them with your application as proof.
Already have Medigap? Missouri has one more tool. Missouri gives policyholders a yearly guaranteed open enrollment period to switch companies. You can switch to the same plan letter within 30 days before or after your policy anniversary, without health questions.
Kansas has no such rule. Kansas SHICK says that in certain cases you have 63 days to buy a Medicare supplement with no health questions asked. See Missouri vs Kansas rules if you live near the state line.
What if my plan stays but my hospital leaves?
This is a different problem. A network change is not the same as your plan ending.
The triggers Missouri lists are a plan leaving Medicare, leaving your area, or you moving. A network change is not on that list. Please ask before you drop a plan you still have.
Here is a local example, as of November 2026. Saint Luke’s says that starting January 1, 2027, its doctors and facilities will be out of network for the Aetna Medicare Advantage plan.
Saint Luke’s also says people with Medigap plans are not affected, since those are not Advantage plans. Check your doctors and hospitals before any change.
What should I check first?
Start with these steps:
- The date your plan ends. Read your notice. That date starts your 63-day clock.
- Your doctors and hospitals. Check them under Original Medicare with Medigap. Then check them under any new Medicare Advantage plan.
- Your medicines. You may also get a chance to join a Medicare drug plan at this time. See Part D for how that works.
- Your costs. Look at Medicare costs this year so there are no surprises.
- How Medigap works. Read about Medicare Supplements before you apply.
