An HMO with a built-in escape hatch. The Point-of-Service option lets you step outside the network for certain services, giving you a middle ground between an HMO and a PPO.
An HMO-POS plan works like a standard HMO, a local network, a primary care doctor, and low premiums, but it adds a Point-of-Service (POS) option. That option lets you go outside the network for certain covered services, usually at a higher cost share, without giving up the savings of an HMO.
Think of it as an HMO with a little extra flexibility for the services where you might need a provider the network does not include.
Low premium, a primary care doctor, and most care delivered in network.
Certain services can be used out of network for a higher copay or coinsurance.
Which services qualify for the POS benefit varies by plan, so the details matter.
An HMO-POS is a good middle ground if you like the low cost of an HMO but want some ability to go out of network for specific needs. Because the POS rules differ by plan, we will read the fine print with you so you know exactly what is covered before you enroll.
