She Changed Her Mind Three Times, and That Was Fine

Changing Her Mind, More Than Once

Jean enrolled in a new plan in late October, found a better option in November, and switched again right before Thanksgiving. She assumed she’d locked herself into a mistake the first time. She hadn’t. AEP allows unlimited changes, only the very last one before December 7 actually counts.

Still deciding, or already locked into a choice you’re unsure about? Review your options before the December 7 deadline

What You Can Change

October 15 through December 7: switch Medicare Advantage plans, move between Advantage and Original Medicare, change Part D coverage. Effective January 1.

You’re Allowed to Reconsider

As many changes as you want during the window. Only the last selection before December 7 takes effect.

Always Check Your ANOC

Insurers mail an Annual Notice of Change by late September outlining what’s different for next year, premiums, formularies, networks. Reading it every year catches problems before they become expensive.

Want someone to double-check your choice before the window closes? Get a second opinion before you finalize anything

Can I Change My Mind After Enrolling?

Yes, through December 7. After that, your selection locks in for January 1, with MA OEP (Jan 1-Mar 31) as a narrower backup.

Do I Have to Re-Enroll Every Year?

No. Happy with your plan? Do nothing, it continues automatically.

Can I Switch Medigap During AEP?

AEP rules apply to Medicare Advantage and Part D, not Medigap. Medigap switches usually require underwriting outside guaranteed-issue windows, regardless of the calendar.
